Nan Vareski, 79

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Nan Marie (Petri) Vareski, 79, died on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at York Hospital in Maine.

She was born in Pittsfield, Mass., on September 8, 1940, a son of the late Francis J. Petri and Constance (Williston) Petri. Nan was raised in North Adams, Mass., and graduated from Drury High School. She started her professional career working for the Berkshire Gas Company. When her son entered grammar school, she moved to a position working for the administration of the North Adams Middle School, where she remained a respected and beloved member of the staff until 1985. That same year, Nan and her family were relocated to Cumberland, R.I., due to a job transfer for her husband Bill. With this move, Nan’s career shifted again. She joined Bill at Sprague Electric Company and quickly rose through the ranks of the product marketing department. This started an 18-year adventure that took her from Rhode Island to Maine and then to North Carolina until her and Bill’s retirement from Vishay in 2003.

Nan loved every place they lived and made many close friendships along the way. Nan and Bill retired back to Kennebunk, Maine, and also enjoyed some time as snowbirds spending winters in Fort Myers, Fla. Her retirement years were spent working on countless projects, traveling to beautiful locations around the world with her husband and best friend Bill and spending time with her many friends. However, her favorite thing in the world was the time spent with her beloved son Bill, daughter-in-law Rebecca and her precious grandchildren Tyler and Nicole.

Nan married William John Vareski Jr. on October 20, 1962, in North Adams, Mass. Besides her husband, Nan also leaves her son, William J. Vareski and his wife Rebecca of Georgetown Mass.; her two grandchildren, Tyler Vareski and Nicole Vareski, also of Georgetown; brother John M. Petri and his wife Carol of Pompano Beach, Fla.; brother James P. Petri of North Adams, Mass.; sister Dianne Petri of Lenox, Mass.; niece Laurie Rici of Pawleys Island, S.C.; and nephew John Petri Jr. of Chesterfield, Va.

A sister, Frances “Frankie” Jones, died on August 29, 2009.

Funeral notice: Services for Nan Vareski will be held at a later date to be announced by the family. Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home – CENTRAL CHAPEL – 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA 01247 is entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mount Carmel Care Center 320 Pittsfield Road, Lenox MA 01240, where her sister Dianne currently resides.
