Kristine M. Fierro, 36
CHESHIRE, Mass. - Kristine Marie Fierro, 36, of 33 Lake Shore Drive died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after a five-year courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in North Adams on Nov. 5, 1977, a daughter of David Fierro Sr. and Sandra Johnson Fierro, both of North Adams, she graduated from Drury High School in 1995 and attended Berkshire Community College.
Ms. Fierro was employed as an advocate for the developmentally disabled for many years.
She was very proud to have participated in the HBO documentary "Mondays at Racine" with her partner, Joe Filkins, which was nominated for an Oscar in 2013.
Besides Filkins, her life partner and caregiver, her parents, she leaves her paternal grandmother Josephine Varuzzo Fierro of North Adams; two brothers, David Fierro Jr. and his wife, Suzi, of Stamford, Vt., and Michael Fierro Sr. and his wife, Regina, of North Adams; a niece and three nephews, Melissa, Duke, Ashton and Mason; a grandniece, Kierra, and aunt and uncles Mary Willey, Paul Willey and Gary Johnson. She also leaves her beloved dog, Ramsay, and two cats, Joe and Jack.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services for Ms. Fierro take place Saturday, Feb. 8, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday, Feb. 7, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for the Kristine Marie Fierro Memorial Fund through the funeral home.
