Norman J. Roy, 88
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Norman Joseph Roy, 88, of North Adams died Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Williamstown Commons.
Born in North Adams on Oct. 21, 1925, a son of John and Hattie Blay Roy, he attended schools in North Adams including St. Joseph's Parochial School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European theater of operations.
Mr. Roy was employed with numerous construction companies in the Northern Berkshire area until 1989 when he was named manager of Holy Family Terrace Apartments.
He was a communicant of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church. He was also a member of the Greylock Community Club, VFW Post 996, and American Legion Post 125. He enjoyed golfing, and was a member at Mount Greylock Bowl.
His wife, the former Alda Nancy Albertazzi, who he married on Feb. 11, 1950, in Cheshire, died on Sept. 18, 2009.
He leaves two sons, Glenn Thomas Roy and his wife, Carol, of Stoughton, and Wayne Joseph Roy of North Adams; a daughter, Lisa Roy Cleary and her husband, William, of Dracut; five grandchildren, Glenn Roy Jr., Nicole Roy, Ashley Roy, Mackenzie Cleary and Thomas Norman Cleary; two great-grandchildren, Vincent Roy and Sylas Soules, and many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
His siblings Joan Harrington, Ida Benoni, Mae Szetela, June Brazeau, Dorothy DePaoli and John Roy Jr. predeceased him.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Roy will be celebrated Monday, May 12, at 11 from St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested for POPCares through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
