Alda N. Roy, 81

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Alda Nancy Roy, 81, of 58 Frederick St. died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at North Adams Commons.

Born in the Farnams section of Cheshire on July 20, 1928, daughter of Domenico and Florinda Moresi Albertazzi, she attended Cheshire schools and graduated from the former Adams High School with the class of 1946.

Mrs. Roy was first employed by General Electric Co. in Pittsfield from 1947 to 1951 and at the former Sprague Electric Co. for a short time. She then became the school secretary at the former St. Joseph's High School, where she also taught typing. She worked at Berkshire Sports Medicine in Williamstown until she returned to Sprague, working for its successors until her retirement in 1990.

She was a communicant and Eucharistic minister of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church. She was a member of Court Margaret 629, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and an active member of the Sons of Italy Lodge 704, serving as its first woman president. She was a former member of the March of Dimes Committee in Pittsfield.

She and her husband, Norman J. Roy, were married Feb. 11, 1950, in St. Mary's Church in Cheshire.

Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Lisa Cleary and her husband, William, of Dracut; two sons, Glenn T. Roy and his wife, Carol, of Stoughton and Wayne J. Roy of North Adams, with whom she made her home; three sisters, Elizabeth Bongini and Nadia Charron, both of Pittsfield, and Gena Simpson of North Adams; five grandchildren, Glenn Roy Jr., Nicole Roy, Ashley Roy, Mackenzie Cleary and Thomas Cleary, and nieces and nephews.

Two brothers and another sister are deceased: Reno Albertazzi, who died in World War II, Biagio Albertazzi and Chesela Magi.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Roy will be celebrated Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or National Kidney Foundation in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
