Lee H. Sylvester, 80
CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Lee Hinchliffe Sylvester, 80, of 761 Cross Road, died on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at his home. He was a former member of the Board of Health and Planning Board.
Born in Williamstown on May 30, 1934, a son of Theodore and Etta Baker Sylvester, he graduated from the former Williamstown High School in 1952.
A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he had a rating of E-6 and continued his service in the Naval Reserves in Pittsfield as a chief petty officer.
Mr. Sylvester was employed by New England Telephone Co. and its successor, Verizon, for 46 years, retiring in 2003.
A Melha Shriner, he also was a 55-year member of the Williams Lodge of Masons in Williamstown and of the Knights Templar and Frank R. Stiles American Legion Post 125, both in North Adams.
He enjoyed restoring his 1962 Corvette with his son, as well as traveling and target shooting.
He and his wife, the former Nancy Thompson, were married on Oct. 5, 1963.
Besides his wife of 50 years, he leaves a daughter, Becky Sylvester of North Adams; son, Jeffrey Sylvester of Clarksburg; a sister, Inez Wise of Jackson, Miss.; two brothers, George Sylvester and John Sylvester, both of Williamstown; two grandchildren, Robert and Taylor Pecor, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Paul, Theodore and Robert Sylvester.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A memorial service for Mr. Sylvester will take place on Tuesday, July 15, at 11 a.m. in the All Saints Church in North Adams. Burial with military honors will follow in the Clarksburg Cemetery.
