George C. Roy, 95
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - George Calix Roy, 95, of North Adams died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, at Williamstown Commons, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Pittsfield, son of Calix "Chick" and Edith Trombley Roy, he attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School.
Mr. Roy was employed for 47 years at the former Sprague Electric Co. as corporate manager of shipping and receiving, retiring in 1983.
While employed there, he received awards on several occasions, one time after saving the lives of people who fell in the Hoosic River.
He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all. He was an avid golfer and longtime member of the former North Adams Country Club. In his younger years, he was an accomplished softball pitcher and an avid Red Sox fan. His passion was for fishing and spending countless hours with his family at their cottage on Lake Champlain.
His wife, the former Alyce "Honey" Tadiello, whom he married on Sept. 20, 1941, died Sept. 27, 1983.
He leaves two sons, George C. Roy Jr. and his wife, Beth, of Tampa, Fla., and Michael E. Roy and his wife, Therese, of North Adams; five grandchildren, Scott Roy and his wife, Sarah, of Indialantic, Fla., Stephen Roy and his wife, Ann, of Holliston, Sean Roy and his wife, Sara of Wake Forest, N.C. , Jeffrey Roy and his wife, Trina, of Pittsfield and Laurie James and her husband, Gary, of Pownal, Vt.; a brother, Rolland Roy of Pownal; and 12 great-grandchildren, Justin, Brianna, Kaylee, Leah, Kamryn, Juliana, Sydney, Colton, Lindy, Cammie, Kaia and Mason.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Lionel Roy, and five sisters, Melva Hoynoski, Beatrice Pierce, Rita Styczynski, Exilda Suprenant and a sister who died in infancy.
FUNERAL NOTICE - A graveside service for Mr. Roy will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. in Southview Cemetery in North Adams. There will be no calling hours.
