James Y. Hart Sr., 92

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - James Yuman "Snooky" Hart Sr., 92, of 65 Hall St., died at home on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, surrounded by his loving family and caregivers, Ellen and Barbara. He was a longtime local businessman. Born in Williamstown on Nov. 30, 1922, a son of Henry & Kate Alexander Hart, he graduated in 1941 from the former Williamstown High School, where he was a member of the basketball team. He also attended Howard University. Mr. Hart was employed in the longtime family business, Hart Construction Co., retiring in the late 1990s. He was a member of United Methodist Church and of the NAACP. He enjoyed trips to Saratoga, N.Y., visiting flea markets and Off-Track Betting. He also loved long walks, and visiting with friends, and especially spending time with his grandson, Travon. He and his wife, the former Mary Bowman, were married on Jan. 2, 1954. Besides his loving wife, he leaves a daughter, Laura Hart-Brown and her husband, Ernest Thomas Brown, of Roanoke, Va.; a son, Stephen M. Hart of Williamstown and his companion, Barbara Hidalgo; and a grandson, Thomas Travon Brown of Hampton, Va.; and his longest employee, office manager for the family business and caregiver, Becky Green. He was predeceased by his son James Yuman Hart Jr. on Dec. 25, 2000. The last of his immediate family, he also was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Hart, and four brothers Henry Hart, William Hart Sr., Allen Hart and Thomas Hart, Ph.D. FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services for Mr. Hart will be held on Friday, March 6, at 1 p.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. Calling hours will Friday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Williamstown Take and Eat Meals Ministry ministry program through the funeral home. The family would like to thank everyone who cared for Mr. Hart with such love and compassion, including his caregivers, Ellen Boucher, Barbara Hidalgo, Krista Dickey, Lindsay Lincoln, Theresa McLain, Mary Taylor, Steve Michelanko and Sarah Haley-Tovani. They would also like to thank the caring staff from the VNA & Hospice of the Berkshires and members of Gentiva. And lastly, they would like to extend a special thanks to the Staff at Hart Construction including, Ron and Chuck, Charles, Richie, Marcus, and Austin; and also the staff at Dunkin' Donuts in Williamstown.

Everyone in Williamstown knew him. He was a very friendly person, he was Williamstown. Very sorry for your loss! Even if he didn't know you he would say hello and start a conversation. A gentle man!
