Edna Mae Williams, 96

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Edna Mae Williams, 96, of 81 Brooks Heights died at home on Mercy Sunday, April 12, 2015, after a long illness. Born in North Adams on Aug. 13, 1918, daughter of John T. Reardon Jr. and Maude Tinney Reardon, and her stepmother, Emma Reardon, she attended the former St. Joseph's Grammar School and graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School in North Adams with the class of 1935. Mrs. Williams had been employed part time at McClelland Press in Williamstown for 40 years. She had earlier worked at the former Sprague Electric in North Adams from 1935 to 1942. She was an active volunteer at Berkshire Food Project for many years and was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish, and a former Adorer. She enjoyed hiking, camping and picnics with family and friends at camp on Florida Mountain. She was a member of the Green Mountain Club of Vermont for more than 30 years and was active with its Pioneer Valley Section. She was awarded honorary life membership of the club, along with her husband, Earl Franklin Williams Sr., on May 26, 1990. She also received the Roy O. Buchanan Award in recognition of 10 or more years of consistent, volunteer service to the maintenance and management of Vermont's Long Trail on Dec. 7, 1996. She received the Appalachian National Scenic trail silver Service Award in appreciation of 25 years of volunteer service to the Appalachian trail on July 26, 2003. Besides her husband, whom she married on Feb. 15, 1941, in St. Francis' Rectory in North Adams, she leaves her daughter, Carol A. Hayes; her three grandchildren, Brent Williams, Traci Williams and Glenn Hayes, and a great-grandchild, Garrison Hayes. She was predeceased by her son, Earl F. Williams Jr. and a grandchild, Brendan Hayes. FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial to celebrate the life of Mrs. Williams will be celebrated Thursday, April 16, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams. Calling hours will be Wednesday evening, April 15, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Donations may be made to St. Elizabeth of Hungary Preservation Fund or the Berkshire VNA & Hospice.
