Ronald R. Battory, 74

ADAMS, Mass. — Ronald R. Battory, 74, of 87 1/2 Orchard St., died late Thursday evening, July 30, 2015, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 15, 1941, a son of Stephen and Adella Patryn Battory, he attended North Adams schools, and graduated from Drury High School. He attended Williams College, and earned his bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Mr. Battory was employed as a computer programmer for many years in the Ordnance Division of the former General Electric Co. and, later, for General Dynamics in Pittsfield, until retiring in 2013. Earlier, he had worked briefly for Hewlett-Packard Corp. He was also a professional jazz musician, playing the alto and tenor saxophone, clarinet, and several other instruments. He played with jazz bands at many shows at several different venues in the region, especially at the Williams Inn. He was an ardent music fan, and also enjoyed bird watching and electronics. He was a very dedicated family man as well. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and member of the Williams College and UMass-Amherst alumni associations. He leaves two daughters, Nancy A. Battory of Kenosha, Wisc., and Susan M. Rahilly of Burlington, Wisc.; a brother, Stephen J. Battory of North Adams; a grandson, Shawn Rahilly of Burlington, Wisc.; and his former wife, Jean Maluda Battory of Silver Lake, Wisc. His brother, Robert L. Battory, died in 1998. FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services and burial for Mr. Battory will be private. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 5 to 7 at Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams. Relatives and friends are invited. Memorial donations may be made to the Alert Hose Company, 3 Columbia St. Adams, MA 01220, or to the Adams Ambulance Service, 185 Columbia St. Adams, MA 01220.
