Louis C. Lescarbeau, 75
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Louis Clifford Lescarbeau, 75, of 255 Wells Ave., North Adams, died suddenly at home with his wife and son by his side on Thursday, July 14, 2016.
Born in North Adams on March 8, 1941, he was the son of Edward Joseph and Emaline Delia (Lord) Lescarbeau. He was educated in city schools. He began his working career with Sprague Electric, and later was employed at Warren Wire and General Cable in Pownal, Vt., and retired from Steinerfilm in Williamstown. He also was the owner of Lou's Catering in North Adams.
Following his retirement, he continued working as a caterer at several area organizations, including the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, where he was instrumental with upgrading the lodge and ran many fundraisers including his famous fish dinner during the lent season. He also catered for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Greylock Club and for private parties.
He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church of North Adams. He was a member of and four times Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 487 in North Adams. In 1980 he was selected as "Officer of the Year" and in 1981 "Elk of the Year" he was voted by the lodge to Honorary Life Membership in 1997. He was a member of the Elk National Foundation. Louis was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 310 in North Adams.
Lou had a love for life and a kind word for all that he met, once you met him he made you feel part of his family. He was an accomplished chef and loved hunting and fishing, but more than anything he loved being with family and friends. He spent many hours serving others, whether it be ushering at church, sponsoring spaghetti supper fundraisers or always being there for anyone who was in need. He had a knack for showing up when you needed a friend.
He leaves his wife, the former Shirley Luczynski, whom he married June 9, 1962, in North Adams; two sons, Louis E. Lescarbeau and his wife Angel of North Adams and James R. Lescarbeau and his husband Troy Koeppe of Kansas City, Mo.; his “adopted” daughter, Sharon Mahoney and her husband Tim of North Adams; his loving grandchildren, Kyra and her significant other Terrance, Kaylee and Maria; one great-grandson Jamison; his two best buddies, his cats Smoky and Bandit; his four sisters, Erma E. Foster and Theresa E. Grieger of North Adams, Emaline I. Goddard of Clarksburg and Bernadette M. Aubin of Stamford, Vt.; six brothers, Henry W. Lescarbeau, Donald R. Lescarbeau, Leon C. Lescarbeau (his twin brother), Norman J. Lescarbeau, Harold J. Lescarbeau and Howard J. Lescarbeau, all of North Adams; 69 nieces and nephews; and many grandnieces and grandnephews and numerous cousins throughout the area.
Five brothers, David E. Lescarbeau, Edward E. Lescarbeau, Lawrence A. Lescarbeau Felix E. Lescarbeau and Richard F. Lescarbeau, are deceased.
Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 18, 2016, at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours are Sunday, July 17, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for the St. Vincent de Paul Society through the funeral home.
