Thomas DeSanty, 74

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Thomas Vincent DeSanty, 74, of 10 Adams St. died Friday, March 22, 2002, at his home following a prolonged illness. Born in North Adams, a son of Vincent and Antoinette Siciliano DeSanty, he was educated in North Adams schools. A Navy veteran of World War II, he enlisted on June 1, 1945 and served with the SeaBees as a seaman, second class, until his honorable discharge on July 5, 1946. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the American Theater Medal for his service. Mr. DeSanty was employed with the former Sprague Electric Co. for 43 years. He was also employed on a part-time basis with the Williams Inn in Williamstown. He retired in 1992. He first worked at the former Gale Shoe Co. on Brown Street before entering the service. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church in North Adams and a member of the Sprague Quarter Century Club and the Sprague Retirees. He loved and enjoyed movies and animals, especially cats including his longtime companion, Jenny. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, the former Yvonne E. Boino, whom he married on Oct. 2, 1965, in St. Mary's Church in Pittsfield; four daughters, Christina McKay Zustra and Antoinette Lentine, both of North Adams, Teresa Briggs Amos of Clarksburg and Laura Shafer of Adams; a sister, Elizabeth Sheehan of North Adams; nine grandchildren, Marine Corp. Christopher McKay in Japan, Amanda McKay, Monica Zustra, Zachary DeSanty and Nicholas Lentine, all of North Adams, Daniel Briggs and Carissa Briggs, both of Clarksburg, and Gabriella Shafer and Maxwell Shafer, both of Adams; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy DeSanty and Lillian DeSanty, both of North Adams, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by several sisters and brothers, including Eleanor DeSanty, Margaret Pozzi, Frances Jammalo, Beatrice Gibeau, Rose Areno, Arthur DeSanty, Andrew DeSanty and Ernest DeSanty. Three siblings died in infancy. FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services for Mr. DeSanty will take place Monday, March 25, at 9:30 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church of North Adams with the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday, March 24 from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Berkshire Humane Society through the funeral home.
