Howard J. Delisle, 79
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Howard Joseph Delisle, 79, of 121 Johnson St. died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in North Adams on Nov. 27, 1922, son of Israel Joseph and Rosanna Senecal Delisle, he attended the former Notre Dame School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the southern Philippines and Luzon with Battery A, 518th AAA Gun Battalion, as an anti-aircraft artillery gun crewman and sharpshooter.
He was decorated with the Purple Heart and several campaign medals.
Mr. Delisle was employed by the North Adams Highway Department for 38 years, retiring in 1985 as a foreman. He had earlier worked for the former Gale Shoe Co.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church, a life member of the Dr. George L. Curran VFW Post 996, and a member and past commander of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 63.
He and his wife, the former Alice Goodman, were married Nov. 27, 1948, in St. Francis' Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves a brother, Francis Delisle of North Adams; a niece, Jacqueline Brown Thomas of North Adams, and a nephew, John Francis Brown, both whom he raised; and a grandniece and grandnephew, Laura Lynn Thomas and Christopher John Brown.
He was predeceased by a brother and a sister, Clarence Delisle and Olive Napierkoski.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mr. Delisle will be Thursday at 10:15 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Our Lady of Mercy Shrine, Massachusetts Avenue, North Adams.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, Oct. 16, from 6 to 8. Memorial donations are suggested for Our Lady of Mercy Church through the funeral home, 521 West Main St.
