Alfred H. Neveu, 80

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Alfred H. Neveu, 80, of 129 Glen Ave. died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at North Adams Regional Hospital after being stricken at home. Born in Adams on Nov. 18, 1924, son of Adolph and Laura Mousseau Neveu, he attended schools there and completed several drafting courses. A decorated Army veteran of World War II, he served with Company I, 313th Infantry, as a rifleman with the rank of private, first class, in Northern France, the Rhineland and Normandy. He was with the 79th Division when it landed on Utah Beach on D-Day, and received two Purple Hearts and a bronze star medal. Mr. Neveu was employed for many years as a draftsman at the former Hunter Machine Co. and its successor, Morrison Berkshire. He retired in 1989. He was an active member of Blackinton Union Church. He also was a member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion and Disabled American Veterans 63. He was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his family. He and his wife, the former Elizabeth J. Brice, were married Oct. 5, 1946, in North Adams. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Linda Marie O'Connell and her husband, Brian, of North Adams and Mary Margaret Leitch and her husband, James, of Adams; three sons, Army Col. Michael B. Neveu and his wife, Jane, of Germany, David A. Neveu of Brockton and James H. Neveu of North Adams; a brother, Bernard Neveu of Adams; a sister, Martha Rousseau of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, Shaun O'Connell, Christopher O'Connell, Katherine Leitch, Michael Neveu Jr., Brian Neveu and Joseph Schwarz, and a great-granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth O'Connell. He was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters, Adrian Neveu, Lawrence Neveu, Agnes Neveu, Mae Breen, Rachel Fiedler and Emelda Bissaillon. FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Mr. Neveu will be conducted Friday at 11 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, by Pastor Richard Lynn of Blackinton Union Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 9 to 11. Memorial donations are suggested to Blackinton Union Church through the funeral home.
