Richard E. Davis, 77
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Richard Edward "Papa" Davis, 77, of 56 Hall St. died early Monday morning, March 28, 2005, at home.
Born in North Adams on May 7, 1927, son of Edward J. and Dorothy Hanley Davis, he was a 1945 graduate of the former St. Joseph's High School.
A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he enlisted July 25, 1945, and served until his honorable discharge Aug. 25, 1946.
Mr. Davis was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for more than 35 years, retiring as a production supervisor in 1990. He had first worked at the former Strong-Hewat Woolen Mill in Clarksburg.
He was a lifelong communicant of St. Francis' Church and a member of the Sprague Quarter Century Club, Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW and the Adams Lodge of Elks.
He also was a horn player and member of the Interstatesmen Drum & Bugle Corps for more than 20 years.
His wife, the former Jean Marie Eustis, whom he married Aug. 13, 1955, died May 17, 1997.
He leaves three daughters, Linda M. Wilcox and her husband, John, of Adams, and Kathleen A. Wilkinson and her husband, Wayne, and Maura J. Oleskiewicz, all of North Adams; two sons, Richard J. Davis and William F. Davis, with whom he resided; two grandchildren, Stacy Oleskiewicz and Michael Oleskiewicz; stepgrandchildren Melissa and Jeffrey Wilkinson, John Wilcox III, Lisa Powers and Shari Wilcox, and a great-granddaughter, Courtney Oleskiewicz.
A sister, Shirley Davis, and a son-in-law, Michael J. Oleskiewicz, are deceased
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Davis will be Thursday, March 31, at 8:15 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., with a Funeral Mass at 9 at St. Francis of Assisi Church.
Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 .Donations may be made to VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home.
