Hazel I. Senecal, 77
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Hazel Irene Senecal, 77, of 35 Phelps Ave. died Wednesday evening, Dec. 18, 200, at North Adams Regional Hospital where she was admitted that day.
Born in North Adams on Feb. 2, 1923, a daughter of Frederick and Amelia Dillon Atwood, she attended schools in North Adams, including Drury High School, until she moved to Connecticut and completed her education in Hartford. She returned to North Adams in 1945.
A homemaker, Mrs. Senecal had been employed at the former Peggy Parker Dress Shop and later at the former Banker Cigar Co. until her marriage. During World War II, she was employed at the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Co. in East Hartford, Conn.
She was a communicant of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church and was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.
Her husband, Charles Joseph Senecal, whom she married on May 21, 1949, in St. Francis' Church, died on Dec. 24, 1986.
She leaves three daughters, Patricia Durkee of Pittsfield, Margaret Quinton of Syracuse, N.Y., and Maureen Senecal of North Adams; a sister, Charlotte Chalfonte of North Adams; five grandchildren, Jeremy Quinton and Jessica McBride, both of Lake Charles, La., Kellie Lynn Senecal and Jamie Moncecchi, both of North Adams, and Christopher Durkee of Pittsfield; three great-grandchildren, Gianna Moncecchi of North Adams and Alexis Quinton and Brianna McBride, both of Lake Charles, and nieces and nephew, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A brother, James Atwood, died in August 1955.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services will take place Saturday, Dec. 23, at 10:30 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Following the funeral service, the family will greet family and friends for fellowship and refreshment at American Legion Post 160, Forest Park Avenue, Adams.
The family will also greet friends and relatives at the home of James and Patricia Durkee, 62 Quirico Drive, Pittsfield, on Friday evening from 5 to 9.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are suggested for the St. Francis Building Fund or the North Adams Ambulance Service through the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of the arrangements.
