Peter J. Domenichini, 84

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Peter Joseph Domenichini, 84, of 22 Lyman St. died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at home. Born in Sherman, Vt., on April 24, 1921, son of Silvio and Maria Valenti Domenichini, he attended schools there, in Italy and in Readsboro, Vt. He moved to North Adams with his family in 1938. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 5th Army, 534th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion, from 1942 to 1945. He participated in the campaigns of North Africa, Naples, Foggia, Rome-Arno, Southern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He received several campaign medals. Before his retirement in May 1985, Mr. Domenichini was employed by Williams College in the buildings and grounds department for 10 years. Before that, he was employed for 30 years by the Wall-Streeter Shoe Co. and its successor, Florsheim Shoe Co., on Union Street until it ceased operations in 1975. He also worked for the former Hoosac Cotton Mills. He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and an honorary life member of North Adams Elks Lodge 487, where he served as treasurer for more than 30 years, and a life member of Sons of Italy Lodge 704, where he served as bookkeeper of the weekly bingo games. He was a member of Frank Stiles Post 25 American Legion and the Peter Cook Post Veterans of Foreign Wars of Clarksburg. He was a former member of the Northern Berkshire Retired Men's Club. He and his wife, the former Mary Lucy D'Arcangelo, celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary July 13. They were married in St. Anthony's Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Mary Alice Karam and her husband, John, of Belchertown; a sister, Lena Baruzzi of Williamstown; a brother, Joseph S. Domenichini and his wife, Mary Madeline, of North Adams, and two grandchildren, Jessica Karam and Aaron Peter Durant; his sister-in-law Dorothy DePaoli; son-in-law Russell W. Durant and nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. He was predeceased by another daughter, Silvia Domenichini-Durant on Oct. 3, 2004; a grandson, Jeremy Karam on Sept. 20, 1993, and his sister Ada Domenichini, in infancy. FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mr. Domenichini will be Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 12:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME for FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 64 Marshall St. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Oct. 18, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the St. Anthony Capital Campaign Fund through the funeral home.
