Raymond N. Monette, 79
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Raymond N. Monette, 79, of 231 Protection Ave. died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, surrounded by his family.
Born in North Adams on Jan. 24, 1932, son of Julien and Doris Shartrand Monette, he attended North Adams schools.
A Marine Corps veteran, he enlisted on Feb. 9, 1949, and served for the duration of the Korean War. He later served in the Marine Corps Reserves for 10 years.
Mr. Monette was employed by the city of North Adams in the Cemetary Department for 40 years, retiring as foreman in 1991. He was first employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. and, after his retirement, at various car dealerships.
He was a member of the Greylock Community Club. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed travel.
He and his wife, the former Carol Mowe, were married on July 28, 1978.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Karen Monette Shields of North Adams; three stepdaughters, Terri Guetti of Worcester, Kristi Guetti of North Adams and Jana Boyer and her husband, Matthew, of Clarksburg; a sister, Anita Gibeau of North Adams; a brother, Julien Monette of Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren, Nathan Brown, Kaitlyn Brown, Jacob Boillat, Taylor Boillat, Molly Boyer and Alex Boyer, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings Lucille Crawford and Robert and Armand Monette.
FUNERAL NOTICE - A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Monette will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 29, at 11 from St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. It was his wish to be cremated; burial will be in the spring in Southview Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours and omission of flowers is requested. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
