Carl J. Famiano, 78

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Carl Joseph Famiano, 78, of 547 North Eagle St., died Friday, April 15, 2011, at North Adams Regional Hospital.

He was born in Schenectady, N.Y. on March 28, 1933, son of Carl and Mary Dudy Famiano. He attended Schenectady and Watervliet, N.Y., schools and graduated from the La Salle Institute in 1950. He attended the former North Adams State College.

He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Famiano was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams as a manager in its Filter Division for 31 years until his retirement in 1989.

He was a communicant of the former Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church in North Adams and was an active member of the parish. He served as co-chairman of its bingo events and on the Parish Council, was a Eucharistic minister and taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine for 17 years.

He was a member of the Sprague Quarter Century Club and the Peter Cook VFW Post. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling.

He leaves his wife, the former Elizabeth Rose Cardinal, whom he married on May 5, 1962; two daughters, Donna Whitcomb and her husband, David, of Stamford, Vt., and Brenda Alibozek and her husband, John, of Adams; a brother, Frank Foster of Franklin, Tenn.; three sisters, Helen Sendrakowski of Watervliet, Jean Toothman of Ardmore, Okla., and Ann Garee of Lancaster, Pa.; a grandson, Cameron Alibozek of Adams, and nieces and nephews.

A brother, Anthony Famiano, a sister, Mary Reynolds, and a nephew, Peter Famiano,are all deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Famiano will be Wednesday, April 20, at 10:15 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or to La Salle Institute in care of the funeral home.
