James I. Sprowson Sr., 70
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — James I. Sprowson Sr., 70, of 45 Spring St. died Wednesday evening, Nov. 2, 2011, at home.
Born in North Adams on April 24, 1941, son of William and Florence Buzzi Sprowson, he attended North Adams schools, including Drury High School, and Berkshire Community College.
He enlisted in the Army Corps of Engineers in 1959 and was a decorated veteran.
Mr. Sprowson was employed for many years by the former General Cable Co. in Williamstown. He first worked at Lev's Hardware Store in North Adams.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Dalton American Legion. Mr. Sprowson was a former member and past president of the North Adams Lions Club.
His wife, the former Gloria Olney, died in August 1984.
He leaves his daughter, Bonnie Cirullo and her husband, Michael Cirullo Sr., of North Adams; two sons, Robert Sprowson and his wife, Debra, and William Sprowson, all of North Adams; two sisters, Betty Barron and Emily Filiault, both of Williamstown; a brother, Edward Sprowson of Connecticut; five grandchildren, Michael Jr., Kaley and William Cirullo and Kelsey and Jonathan Sprowson; two great-grandchildren, Connor Cirullo and Jayden Cote, and his longtime companion, Nancy LaFrance.
He was predeceased by his son James "Butch" Sprowson Jr., his brothers William and Albert Sprowson, and his sister Mae Osborne.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Sprowson Sr. will be Sunday, Nov. 6, at 5 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will be in the Southview Cemetery on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 to 5 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home.
