DALTON, Mass, - - The Wahconah football bounced back back after last week’s loss to Taconic with a victory of Chicopee 34-8 Friday night.

Wahconah looked to get back to its winning ways with a matchup against Chicopee (3-4) at home on Senior Night.

Wahconah started the game with a big 40-yard strike from Will Genaway to Connor Washburn for the touchdown. Genaway threw for 89 yards including two touchdowns.

Later in the first quarter, running back Connor Noyes broke off a 53-yard rushing touchdown to give Wahconah an early 14-0 lead. Noyes finished the game with 160 yards rushing and one touchdown.

Chicopee didn’t quit; the Pacers were able to run some clock on a long drive ending in a score from Issaiah Jackson to make it 14-8.

From there on out, Wahconah started to wear down Chicopee as Tanner Hastings punched in one of his two touchdown runs, giving his team a 20-8 lead into the break.

In the second half, Wahconah picked up the intensity on defense, forcing two fumble recoveries, one of which lead to a short field and touchdown. They held Jackson to 28 yards rushing which was huge.

“I thought we floated to the ball well,” Wahconah coach Gary Campbell said. “He’s a tough back so overall I think we did a real nice job containing him.”

The rest of the second half, Waconah ran the clock down gaining good yardage on the ground as they sent their seniors off in good fashion.

Campbell also mentioned his team came out a little flat intensity wise and hopes to improve that next week when they meet up with Hoosac Valley on the road.

“Hoosac is our natural rival, our kids know each other, respect each other, but don’t like each other. Plain and simply I think we will see automatically some energy so that helps.” he said.

As for Chicopee, it will go back home and take on South Hadley next week.
