WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Taylar Hickey retired three straight with a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh Wednesday to give the Wahconah softball team a 12-11 win over Mount Greylock.

Wahconah jumped out to a 5-0 lead early and led 10-6 midway through the fourth, but the Mounties kept fighting back.

The visitors got the insurance runs they needed with a two-run rally in the top of the seventh.

Louis Carkuff hit a leadoff home run. Then Emma Belcher worked a one-out walk, moved up on a wild pitch and scored when Elena Iovieno doubled to left field to make it 12-9.

In the bottom of the frame, Mia Filiault hit an RBI double and scored on Kayleigh Jaros’ RBI single to make it 12-11.

Hickey then moved from third to the circle.

Mount Greylock’s Mila Marcisz sacrificed to get Jaros to third with one out. But Hickey then got the next two hitters to ground out to the infield to end the game.

Offensively, Hickey was one of three Wahconah players to homer, joining Carkuff and Casey Wilson, who went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Iovieno drove in six runs in a 3-for-5 performance.

Wilson worked six innings in the circle, striking out four and allowing seven earned runs.

Kami Sweet went the distance for the Mounties. She struck out eight, walked five and allowed eight earned runs.

Sweet also homered twice and drove in four runs. Emma Newberry went 2-for-4 with a home run and a pair of RBIs. Malia Koffi tripled and drove in a run.

Mount Greylock (12-5) hosts Greenfield on Thursday.

Wahconah finishes the regular season 8-10 and waits to hear who it will face in the quarter-finals of next week’s Western Massachusetts tournament.
