CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Quentin Gittens scored 28 points Wednesday to lead the Taconic boys basketball team to a 79-49 win over Hoosac Valley.

After starting the season 1-3, the defending Western Massachusetts Division 2 champions closed with 16 straight wins heading into next week’s sectional tournament.

Dedric Moody scored 13, and Isaac Percy added 11 in Wednesday’s win.

Hoosac Valley was led by Casey Meczywor with 16 and Carson Meczywor with 14.

The Hurricanes hung with the Berkshire County North Division champs for about the first 12 minutes, but Taconic pulled away toward the end of the second quarter, Hoosac Valley coach Dave Harte said.

“Our guards did a good job against their pressure, But Gittens picked apart our zone and we simply didn’t match up man-to-man,” Harte said.

“Our seniors played hard until the last minute, and even though the season did not go as planned, they left their mark on the program. Time to get to work for next season right now.”

Hoosac Valley finishes its season 6-14.
