Drury Boys Surprise St. Joseph
NORTH ADAMS -- The Drury High School boys basketball team outscored St. Joseph, 11-8, in the fourth quarter and held the Crusaders to a season-low for points in a 48-44 win on Tuesday night at Bucky Bullett Gymnasium.
Nolan Bird led the Blue Devils with 17 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, as they handed St. Joe (6-3) its first loss in Berkshire County this season.
Kareen Beckett had eight rebounds and four assists for the home team, which also got three 3-pointers from Nicholas Trombley (nine points).
St. Joseph star guard Taverick "Tank" Roberson left the game early in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury. Starting forward Michael Carpenter missed the game with the flu, and three other Crusaders played with temperatures north of 100 degrees, St. Joseph coach Paul Brindle said.
Drury (2-5) hosts Wahconah on Friday.
St. Joseph hosts Lenox on Friday and travels to Springfield on Saturday to play Hartford, Conn.'s, Capital Prep in the Spalding Hoop Hall Classic.
