PITTSFIELD, Mass. - Mayor James M. Ruberto announced that Pittsfield’s City Council will vote to accept at the October 13th council meeting seven grants totaling $449,151.
“In these tough economic times City departments have gone above and beyond seeking out grant opportunities that have eased the burden of the revenue shortfall that has affected all levels of government,” said Mayor Ruberto. “These grants have given us the funds so we have not had to cut essential services to the residents of Pittsfield.”
The grants that will be going in front of the City Councilors on Tuesday include $189,000 Department of Energy Grant that will be used to install energy efficient lighting at the library, multiple school gyms, and temperature controls at the Senior Center; two totaling $74,033 for the Ralph J. Froio Senior Center operating costs; $135,812 to the Health Department to create a comprehensive, educational, and mitigation program and to offer the voluntary H1N1 vaccinations to our priority groups within the City; and the final two are for the Police Department totaling over $50,000 for training 911 dispatchers and a part-time domestic violence advocate working for the Elizabeth Freeman Center.
