PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Hillcrest Educational Centers' 10th annual Fall Golf Classic held on Oct. 6 netted $65,000, a record fundraising amount for the event.

This is the sixth straight year Hillcrest has raised more than $50,000 from this annual event, bringing the tournament total after 10 years to more than $400,000.

The 18-hole scramble, sponsored by MountainOne Financial Partners, brought in a record 200 golfers to Waubeeka Golf Links in Williamstown and Donnybrook Country Club in Lanesborough, as Hillcrest expanded the tournament to two courses for the third year.

Hillcrest officials were delighted with the turnout and the support provided by the community. President Gerard Burke said, “We believe this tournament allows us to get the community involved in supporting Hillcrest programs and learning more about the important work we do for kids and families in the Berkshires. A special thanks to the sponsors, golfers and or course, MountainOne, our new title sponsor this year.”

Rob Abel, president and CEO of True North Financial Services, a subsidiary of MountainOne Financial Partners, said,  “We were delighted to be the title sponsor for this event. As MountainOne expands to the new Pittsfield Economic Development Authority site at Williams Stanley Business Park, we were looking for a non-profit organization that truly makes a difference in Pittsfield and the Berkshires.

"Partnering with the highly respected Hillcrest Educational Centers is a great match. The work they do with the children and families is exceptional and True North and the companies of MountainOne are pleased to join forces with them.”

Gross and Net team prizes, Closest to the Pin and Long Drive winners were awarded at both courses. Hillcrest students participated at both courses, joining each team to putt with them as they arrived on the 9th and 18th green.

Presenting sponsor for the Fall Golf Classic was MountainOne Financial Partners. Additional lead sponsors included: USI Insurance; Cornerstone Telephone Company; Commercial Distributing/Coors Light; Futures HealthCore; Action Ambulance Service; and Climate Heating and Cooling, Inc.

Dalton Counter Sues Berkshire Concrete

By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff
DALTON, Mass. — The dispute between Berkshire Concrete and the town has taken another turn as the town pursues a countersuit against the excavation company.

On April 13, Berkshire Concrete Corp., a subsidiary of Petricca Industries, launched legal action against the town, seeking damages, the overturning of the Planning Board's denial of its special permit, and additional proposed orders of a court.

The town has responded with a countersuit of its own, seeking a preliminary injunction requiring Berkshire Concrete to fully restore Lot 105-16 and a permanent injunction mandating an effective dust mitigation plan.

The suit also requests that Berkshire Concrete pay all fines assessed against them, along with the town’s legal costs and attorney's fees, and other relief deemed by the court.

The claim explains the timeline of events dating back to 2024 when Berkshire Concrete started mining without town approval on parcel 105-16, clearing trees and vegetation that abuttors claimed acted as a natural barrier.

The removal of this vegetation resulted in the creation of a corridor for wind to carry dust from the lot and onto residential properties in the abutting neighborhood, the suit claims.

Almost a year ago, both the Select Board and Planning Board expressed that they wanted parcel No. 105-16 fully mitigated to abide by the town's bylaws.
