Members of last year's band performed at the steps of City Hall to rally support prior to the concert.
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield High School Band is hosting its second annual benefit Beatlemania concert during its "Keep Music Education Alive" event at the Robert Boland Theater at Berkshire Community College on March 29 at 7:30 p.m. to raise funds to support the band's trip to Montreal in early April.

Last year's Beatlemania concert was sold out and raised over $5,000 to offset the transportation costs of the music student's trip to Quebec.

The national touring production Beatlemania Stage Show will be performing the complete Beatles experience from the Ed Sullivan days right through to the Magical Mystery Tour, Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road with period costume changes and authentic Beatles instruments. The musicians from Beatlemania have performed professionally alongside the likes of Carly Simon, Hall and Oates, BJ Thomas, Kiss, Todd Rundgren and others. Band members have also written songs with Cher, Billy Joel, Michael Bolton and Joan Jett and several movie sound tracks which included "Wayne's World," "Light of Day" and others.

The Pittsfield High School music students will be performing live with the Beatlemania musicians during the concert on some songs.

"This event is both educational and a fun way for the Pittsfield High School Band to raise money and will be a great experience for the students to perform with a professional group of musicians," Band Director Ron Lively said.

The proceeds will be used to support the Pittsfield High School Band that enrolls students in the marching band, jazz ensemble and music theory. The Pittsfield High Band has more than 50 students enrolled in the school music program.

"You never know who will be the next John, Paul, George or Ringo or in fact the next number one hit group," Lively said.

Tickets for the show are available at www.purplepass.com and at Wood Bros. Music Store or by calling 1-800-316-8559.

Pittsfield Resident Victim of Alleged Murder in Greenfield

By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A man found dismembered in a barrel in Greenfield on Monday has been identified as Pittsfield resident.

The Northwestern District Attorney's Office identified victim as Christopher Hairston, 35, and subsequently arrested a suspect, Taaniel Herberger-Brown, 42, at Albany (N.Y.) International Airport on Tuesday.

The Daily Hampshire Gazette reported that Herberger-Brown told investigators he planned on visiting his mother outside the country.

Herberger-Brown was detained overnight, and the State Police obtained an arrest warrant on a single count of murder on Tuesday morning, the Greenfield Police Department said in a press release.

According to a report written by State Police Trooper Blakeley Pottinger, the body was discovered after Greenfield police received reports of a foul odor emitting from the apartment along with a black hatchet to the left of the barrel, the Greenfield Recorder reported.

Investigators discovered Hairston's hand and part of a human torso at Herberger-Brown’s former apartment, located at 92 Chapman St, the news outlet said.

According to the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Herberger-Brown originally told investigators that he had not been to the apartment in months because he had been in and out of hospitals.
