Children's Chorus Begins Rehearsals Jan. 10

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Blafield Children’s Chorus begins rehearsals for its spring season at 10 a.m. Saturday Jan. 10, in the auditorium of the Berkshire Athenaeum.

The chorus is open to all children ages 6-13 from Berkshire County and surrounding areas.

The main Blafield Children’s Chorus is an auditioned chorus comprised of boys and girls in fourth through ninth grade. During their weekly 90 minute rehearsal, the choristers receive intensive musical and vocal training.

There is also a start-up chorus for all interested boys and girls, first through fourth grade. There is no audition for the start-up chorus. This group meets Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. for a lively one-hour session.  Rehearsals are designed to teach basic musical and performance skills.


 
The Blafield Children’s Chorus is one of a family of choruses comprising Berkshire Lyric, whose goal is to lead talented young singers into a world of great music, while learning how to sing well and have fun. It is led by Berkshire Lyric Artistic Director Jack Brown. who also directs the 90 voice Berkshire Lyric Chorus and is on the faculty at Simon’s Rock College and at The Hotchkiss School. Berkshire Lyric was founded by Robert Blafield in 1963 and their children’s chorus is named in his honor.
 
Their many performances in the new season will include Berkshire Lyric’s annual Kick the Winter Blues popular concert in Lenox, their own Young Musicians Concert along with winners of the vocal competition on May 3, and on May 31, they will finish the season singing at the Colonial Theatre as part of an opera gala concert. The will also join the Berkshire Lyric Chorus for a concert of gospel and spirituals in February and a concert of Russian sacred music in June.

Pittsfield ZBA Member Recognized for 40 Years of Service

Albert Ingegni III tells the council about how his father-in-law, former Mayor Remo Del Gallo who died at age 94 in 2020, enjoyed his many years serving the city and told Ingegni to do the same. 

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — It's not every day that a citizen is recognized for decades of service to a local board — except for Tuesday.

Albert Ingegni III was applauded for four decades of service on the Zoning Board of Appeals during City Council. Mayor Peter Marchetti presented him with a certificate of thanks for his commitment to the community.

"It's not every day that you get to stand before the City Council in honor of a Pittsfield citizen who has dedicated 40 years of his life serving on a board or commission," he said.

"As we say that, I know that there are many people that want to serve on boards and commissions and this office will take any resume that there is and evaluate each person but tonight, we're here to honor Albert Ingegni."

The honoree is currently chair of the ZBA, which handles applicants who are appealing a decision or asking for a variance.

Ingegni said he was thinking on the ride over about his late father-in-law, former Mayor Remo Del Gallo, who told him to "enjoy every moment of it because it goes really quickly."

"He was right," he said. "Thank you all."

The council accepted $18,000 from the state Department of Conservation and Recreation and a  $310,060 from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All program.
