Katherine Yon's email account was hacked this week.
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — School Committee Chairwomen Katherine Yon's email was hacked by scammers.

Yon said those grammatically incorrect and scamlike emails from her AOL address are not coming from her. She said she's been working with the company to secure the address.

"I have been hacked," Yon said during Wednesday's School Committee meeting, telling people that emails from that address may be fake and not to send any money to the hacker.

iBerkshires received a fake email on Tuesday, which asked for money to be sent to Mexico. The email was filled with grammar errors and claimed Yon's cousin was sick with cancer and needed some $1,800 more for a $5,000 bone marrow graft.

The email is the following:

"I did not really want to bother you with this, but I did have other who to contact. I am in Mexico to see my ill cousin who lives here. He is seriously ill and needs support from family. He was diagnosed with (acute lymphoblastic leukemia) - a type of cancer of the blood in 2012 and had been subjected to treatment since. The chemotherapy treatment was going well until last week, when the doctor noticed that the dangerous disease has relapsed and the only way it can survive is to undergo a bone marrow transplant (Bone Marrow Transplantation). Someone whose bone marrow matched his has agreed to be the donor and should be submitted to the registry soon in Mexico Medical Center Hospital for early Dx and Rx Consultation for Dangerous Diseases. The estimate of the graft is $5,000. I've already spent abuot. $3,200 toward his treatment. As the amount is huge, Am asking you for your support with the remaining amount. As I don't know your financial situation at the moment, any help whatsoever will be deeply appreciated. Your help and support will give him a chance to live a normal life once more. There is nothing did a little help when the heart giving is great. Any amount will be accepted with gratitude and reimbursed after surgery. Please let me know how much you can lend provide you contact information to obtain money for me and I will repay as soon as I return."

The email came from her AOL account but the reply was to a zoho.com extension.

Pittsfield ZBA Member Recognized for 40 Years of Service

By Brittany PolitoiBerkshires Staff

Albert Ingegni III tells the council about how his father-in-law, former Mayor Remo Del Gallo who died at age 94 in 2020, enjoyed his many years serving the city and told Ingegni to do the same.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — It's not every day that a citizen is recognized for decades of service to a local board — except for Tuesday.

Albert Ingegni III was applauded for four decades of service on the Zoning Board of Appeals during City Council. Mayor Peter Marchetti presented him with a certificate of thanks for his commitment to the community.

"It's not every day that you get to stand before the City Council in honor of a Pittsfield citizen who has dedicated 40 years of his life serving on a board or commission," he said.

"As we say that, I know that there are many people that want to serve on boards and commissions and this office will take any resume that there is and evaluate each person but tonight, we're here to honor Albert Ingegni."

The honoree is currently chair of the ZBA, which handles applicants who are appealing a decision or asking for a variance.

Ingegni said he was thinking on the ride over about his late father-in-law, former Mayor Remo Del Gallo, who told him to "enjoy every moment of it because it goes really quickly."

"He was right," he said. "Thank you all."

The council accepted $18,000 from the state Department of Conservation and Recreation and a  $310,060 from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All program.
