The Cemetery Commission is looking at ways to replace dead trees at Bellevue Cemetery.

ADAMS, Mass. — The Cemetery Commission has found an unexpected solution to its tree problem: a stand of trees right in Bellevue Cemetery.

Commissioner Jim Taylor had inquired about a tree farm when the subject had come up at a previous meeting. On Thursday, he reported there were trees available that could replace the dead trees in the cemetery.

"There is an existing tree farm up at the cemetery with 20-something trees," Taylor said. "They are young, and they aren't going to be used up at Maple Street Cemetery."

Because of budget restraints, the Cemetery Commission have been unable to replace many of the trees that have had to be removed over recent years.

Taylor said the young trees would fit in around the circle at Bellevue.

Commissioner Bruce Shepley said he liked the idea, but was afraid the Department of Public Works may have some concerns because of extra work it would create for them.

"It's good news and bad news. Yes, we got the trees but then we get the branches and the leaves down," Shepley said. "I am not sure how the DPW feels about replacing them."

Shepley said he would contact the DPW director to see what he thinks.
