A 22-year veteran of the School Committee, Dorothy van den Honert, 83, is a former Crosby Elementary School teacher. Specifically working with dyslectic students, van den Honert has written several articles and a book - "Reading from Scratch" - about teaching students who suffer from dyslexia. Van den Honert earned a bachelor's degree in math from Vassar College.
