Peter Marchetti *
Candidate For City Council - Pittsfield

Peter Marchetti, 39, is seeking his third term based on a campaign that highlights his past accomplishments and emphasizes his desire to move the city forward.

The issues of most significance to Marchetti are neighborhood revitalization and education, both areas that have seen considerable improvement over his four years as a Councilor At-Large, he said. As an active member of the Morningside Initiative, Marchetti hopes to continue to support progress in that particular neighborhood by "providing better housing opportunities, more code enforcement and a safer environment."

Marchetti said he is also working in the neighborhoods to repair blighted properties, implement community crime watches, develop a feeling of community spirit and initiate plans for abandoned properties and vacant lots.

A native of Pittsfield, Marchetti graduated from Pittsfield High School and North Adams State College with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He has worked at the Pittsfield Cooperative Bank for nearly 20 years and is currently serving as the assistant branch manager for the Dalton office.

With involvement in several youth programs, including running a youth bowling organization in the city, Marchetti is especially concerned about continuing strategies implemented this year to ensure that city youth receives the best education possible.

"Based on this past year, we can increase the graduation rates, decrease the dropout rates, increase MCAS scores and provide a great overall education," Marchetti said.

Other volunteer work includes serving on the board of directors for Pittsfield Community Television, acting as the coordinator for the Fourth of July parade and serving on the city's conservation commission.

In a commentary in the Pittsfield Gazette earlier this year, Marchetti wrote that he is eager to continue working as part of a successful team.

"I realize that I alone cannot make all the difference; however I am a piece of the puzzle that accomplishes many great deeds," he said.
