Paul P. Matrigali, 97
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Paul Peter Matrigali, 97, of 89 Phelps Ave. died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in North Adams on Dec. 24, 1916, son of Amedio and Anna Zucchero Matrigali, he attended local schools including Sarah T. Haskins and Drury High schools.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the 245th Company of Engineers.
Mr. Matrigali was employed by the city of North Adams as the plumbing and gas inspector, retiring after 49 years of service. Before that, he worked as a plumber with Bert Shields for 25 years.
He was a communicant of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church. He was a member of the North Adams Elks, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed playing the piano, and in his younger years, the trumpet. While in the service, he had his own band.
His first wife, the former Carmella Maruco, died in 1965.
He leaves his wife, the former Marie C. DeMayo, whom he married on Sept. 22, 1967; a daughter, Mary Ann George and her husband, Lawrence, of North Adams; a son, Daniel Matrigali and his companion, Ellen Wohrle, of Adams; a stepson, Edward Luscia and his wife, Barbara of Pownal, Vt.; seven grandchildren, Brice George, Kyle George, Christopher Luscia, Shannon Luscia, Macaul Zuk, Arizona Matrigali and Noah Matrigali, and five great grandchildren, Emily George, Jack George, Chase George, Paul George, and Grace Elizabeth Luscia, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
His siblings Theresa Prejsnar, Mary Girard, Josephine Rotolo and George Matrigali predeceased him.
FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Mr. Matrigali will be Thursday, March 6, at 10:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 5, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the James Rotolo Memorial Scholarship or the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
