Camille J. Ziter, 95
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Camille John Ziter, 95, of Daytona Beach, Fla., formerly of North Adams and Williamstown, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Halifax Health Hospice in Port Orange, Fla.
Born on March 23, 1918, in Fort Kent, Maine, a son of Kelil and Amelia Koury Ziter, he attended schools in Fort Kent until his family then moved to North Adams. He attended Brayton School and Drury High School. He moved to Daytona in 1980.
Mr. Ziter was employed by Greyhound Bus Co. in Albany, N.Y., as a driver for 21 years. He first worked at the former Wall-Streeter Shoe Co. and, for 25 years, at the former Green Mountain Race Track in Pownal, Vt. He also owned and operated Pedrin's Dairy Bar for three years.
He was a communicant of the former Incarnation Church and of Our Lady of Hope Church in Daytona Beach. He was a third-degree member of Knights of Columbus 08086. He enjoyed trips to Saratoga (N.Y.) Race Track and playing golf.
His wife, the former Julia Constance Romanos, whom he married on June 15, 1937, died on June 5, 1999.
He leaves two daughters, Jacqueline Gigliotti and her husband, Alan, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Karen Singleton and her husband, Richard, of Pownal; a son, Deacon Bruce Ziter and his wife, Jean, of North Adams and a daughter-in-law, Francesca Ziter of Middletown, N.Y.; a brother, Joseph Ziter and his wife, Peg, of Troy N.Y., nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Donald F. Ziter on Feb. 15, 2014; two grandchildren, Kimberly Sheehan and Kristen Porch; two sisters, Helen Deeb and Minnie Ziter, and two brothers, Cary Ziter and Norman Ziter
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Ziter will be Friday, March 6, at 9:45 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society local conference at 70 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247 or through the funeral home.
