E. John Reinke, 98
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — E. John Reinke, 98, of Sweetwood Retirement Community died Monday, March 17, 2014, at North Adams Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Haven, Conn., on July 31, 1915, son of Emil J. and Sarah Jane Ryan Reinke, he attended New Haven schools and graduated from the New Haven High School. He graduated from the University of New Haven and also studied at the University of Iowa and Yale University.
He served in the Coast Guard Reserves.
Mr. Reinke was vice president and controller at the former Arnold Print Works in Adams, where he worked for more than 25 years until his retirement in 1981.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, of which he was treasurer and a member of its Vestry. He also sang in the choir.
He was active in many civic and community affairs in Adams and Williamstown and was a member of the Williams College Faculty Club. He enjoyed golf and was a member of the Taconic Golf Club. He also enjoyed sailing and travel, especially to England and Europe.
His first wife, the former Ethel Marie Wilcox, whom he married in November 1940, died in May 1973.
He leaves his wife, the former Dorothy Wilson Sprague, whom he married on Nov. 13, 1975; a daughter, Johanna Reinke of Kennebunk, Maine; two sons, Peter Reinke and his wife, Sandra, of Vernon, Conn., and Karl Reinke of Watertown; two grandchildren, Michelle Reinke Neblett and her husband, Ron, of Arlington, Va., and Kristin Reinke of Brookline; two stepchildren, Robert C. Sprague III and his wife, Ann, of Frisco, Texas, and Dianna Stugger and her husband, Walter, of Stratton, Vt.; four stepgrandchildren, Suzanne Sprague-Trammell, Sara Sprague, Robert C. Sprague IV and D. Connor Sprague; a stepgreat-grandchild, Evelyn Rose Trammell, and a nephew and two nieces.
His sister, Wilhelmina Jane Johnson, is also deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Reinke will be Saturday, March 22, at 11 a.m. from St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown. Burial will be private.
There will be calling hours and the omission of flowers is requested. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Church in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
