Albert Perras Sr.

Albert Ovide Perras Sr., 79, of Franklin Court Apartments, 227 Franklin St., died Monday at North Adams Commons, where he was admitted Aug. 24. Born in New Bedford on May 30, 1922, son of Louis and Amanda Fortin Perras, he moved to North Adams as a child and attended the former Holy Family and Notre Dame schools. A World War II veteran, he joined the Army on March 19, 1943, and served as a private, first class, and expert rifleman with Company F, 313th Infantry, Third Army in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Europe. He received the Purple Heart with clusters and several other decorations. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 20, 1945. Mr. Perras was first employed by the Greylock division of the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates and later by Sprague Electric Co. Before his retirement in 1984, he was employed by General Cable Corp. in its North Adams and Pownal, Vt., plants. He was a communicant of Holy Family and Our Lady of Mercy churches. He was a charter member and past commander of the Dr. George Curran Post 996 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion and a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 63. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Stamford (Vt.) Valley Golf Club and of several bowling leagues at Mount Greylock Bowl. A member of the Northern Berkshire Retired Men's Club, he was a former member of the Hairpin Turners square dancing club and of the Pittsfield Squares. He leaves his wife, the former Elizabeth Archambault, whom he married July 20, 1979, in Holy Family Church; a son, Albert O. Perras Jr. of Burlington, Ky.; two daughters, Brenda Perras of North Adams and Cynthia Kinnamon of Little Elm, Texas, and five grandchildren. Predeceased by 10 siblings, Louis Perras, Jean Perras, George Perras, Thomas Perras, Leon Perras, Clement Perras, Louise Genard, Blanche Mestick, Laura Boucher, Florence Boucher. The funeral will be Thursday, Sept. 27, at 10 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 610 State Road, North Adams. Burial will follow with military honors in the family plot at Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday, Sept. 26, from 3 to 7. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are suggested for any charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams 01247, which is in charge of arrangements.
