Lawrence E. Snow, 97

OTIS, Mass. — Lawrence E. Snow, 97, passed away Friday morning, April 8, 2016, surrounded by his family.

He was born on December 8, 1918 in Pittsfield, the son of Chester and Ida Bliven Snow. He was educated in Otis Schools and graduated from Lee High School. 
 
On November 6, 1939, he married the former Bertha L. Hood. She passed away on March 11, 2011.
 
Mr. Snow started working at home on the farm at age 12. At 16, he worked for Humason Store and was hired out doing various jobs (cutting wood, delivering groceries, sanding, plowing, oil delivery, whatever was needed). He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and he worked on the turnpike cutting trees for Grove and Co. He started working for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1956 and after 26 years of service retired on March 31, 1982. 
 
He enjoyed sitting on the front porch swing keeping track of things around town and waving to everyone. He also enjoyed wood working, spending time with family and friends, and riding (especially in later years in his convertible) back roads. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing horseshoes and camping. In much younger years he coached Little League.
 
He was an avid clock builder and repairman and was the first TV repairman in Otis.
 
Mr. Snow is survived by his three sons, Lawrence “Bubby” Snow and his wife Kay of Clinton, Iowa, Robert A. Snow and his wife Roxanne of Kannapolis, N.C., and Chester W. Snow and his wife Donna of Morrison, Ill.; his daughter, Patricia L. Thomas of East Otis; his brother, Chester Snow of Otis; and 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. 
 
He is predeceased by his three sisters, Ruth Rowley, Edith Lewis and Ida Strickland.
 
Funeral notice: Funeral Services for Lawrence Snow will be on Friday, April 15, at noon at the Otis Congregational Church in Otis with Robert Rennie, Spiritual Counselor for Hospice Care in the Berkshires, officiating. Burial will follow in Otis Cemetery. 
 
Visiting hours will be on Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Kelly Funeral Home at 3 Main St. in Lee. Donations may made in his memory to the Otis Ambulance Squad or to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in c/o the Kelly Funeral Home.
