Peter Caden, 86

OTIS, Mass. — Peter J.'' Boot'' Caden, 86, of West Center Road, Otis, died Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield.

Born in Pittsfield, March 23, 1930, the son of Michael and Minnie Fredette Caden, Peter was raised in Pittsfield and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School, where he was a member of the Varsity Baseball team. He also played for the local Brass Rail Semi-Pro team, where he played in a number of All American Amateur Tournaments, nationwide.

After schooling, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, serving until his honorable discharge in 1952. Mr. Caden then went to work for the Massachusetts Highway Department from which he retired from after 40 years of service.

Peter enjoyed coaching hockey at the Pittsfield Boys Club and he was also the Official Scorekeeper for Western Mass Hockey. His hobbies included fishing, and he was a Ham radio operator for more than 65 years with the call sign W1WYN. His favorite teams were the New York Rangers and the New York Yankees.

Mr. Caden leaves behind two sons, Terry M. Caden and his wife Eileen of Hinsdale, and Jeffrey P. Caden and his partner Jenn Wisdom of Melbourne, Fla.; four daughters, Robin A. Farrigan and her husband Joseph of Port St. Lucie Fla., Colleen M. Haughey of Pittsfield, Michele L. Stannard and her husband Kevin of Pittsfield, and Wendy A. Caden of Pittsfield; his seven grandchildren, Quinn Sullivan, Amber DiNicola, Ian Caden, Tanner Caden, Shea Caden, Makenna Caden and Caden Stannard; and three great-grandchildren, Timothy, Lily and Brendan Sullivan.

Mr. Caden is predeceased by his sister, Gloria Caden, in 1992.

Funeral notice: At the request of the family, services and burial will be private. Mr. Caden's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of his friends in Otis for their love and support shown throughout the years, and to the staff at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility for the wonderful care they provided.
