Fred Hansen Jr.

Fred T. Hansen Jr., 75, of 423 Summit Hill Road died Saturday at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Mr. Hansen served on the Central Berkshire Regional School Committee from 1957 to 1991. He also was town building inspector and served on the Board of Assessors, the Planning Board and, from 1956 to the present, the Washington Scholarship Committee. He served on the board of trustees for Berkshire Community College and on the vocational advisory board of Taconic High School. Born in Port Chester, N.Y., on May 12, 1926, son of Fred T. Hansen Sr. and Rhetta Schutrick Hansen, he was a 1943 graduate of Greenwich (Conn.) High School. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. Mr. Hansen was employed as director of coordinators of the Carpenters Suburban Coordinating Committee of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America from 1984 to 1987. From 1972 to 1984, he was coordinator organizer of the Massachusetts State Council of Carpenters. A member of the brotherhood since 1946, he also served as business agent of Local 444. He was honored as Berkshire County Labor Man of the Year in 1980. Mr. Hansen also was a former president of the state Council of Carpenters and a charter member of the Berkshire County Labor Credit Union. He was a member of Becket Federated Church and a member and past master of Globe Lodge AF & AM in Hinsdale. He and his wife, the former Doris Mortenson, would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary Nov. 30. Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Heidi Nugent of Washington, and Nancy Lamoureaux and Terry Walsh, both of Pittsfield; a brother, Robert B. Hansen of Washington; a sister, Rhetta Jaeschke of Pittsfield; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren, and seven great-step-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday at 10 at Becket Federated Church in Becket by the Rev. Robert Withers, pastor. Burial of his cremains will be at a later date in Washington. Calling hours at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Dalton will be tomorrow from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Washington Scholarship Fund or to the Hinsdale Volunteer Ambulance Fund in care of the funeral home at 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226. Globe Lodge of Masons will have a Masonic Memorial Service tomorrow at 7 p.m.
