Robert Earl Pause

Robert Earl Pause, 68, of 28 Meadow St. died Wednesday evening at home. Born in Adams on July 21, 1933, son of William and Frances Demarais Pause, he graduated from the former Adams High School in 1951. A Navy veteran, he served in the Mediterranean during the Korean War. Mr. Pause owned the former Berkshire Studio on Summer Street from 1976 until 1992, and photographed countless weddings and celebrations. He also worked as an advertising representative for the former Shopper's Companion weekly newspaper and as a steward at the Polish National Alliance. Known as "Polka Bob," he hosted the "On the Road" polka show on local cable-access television for 10 years. He also hosted "Music and Memories," which featured music from the 1940s and '50s, for 10 years. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church and financial secretary of the St. Michael's Society of the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America. He was a member of the Polish National Alliance and past president of the former Adams Chamber of Commerce and the Adams Junior Football Committee. He was a former member of the Adams Lions Club and Burnette-Bednarz Post 1995 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was active in local drum corps units, including the former Berkshire Marauders and the former Interstatesmen, and was a drill instructor for the former PNA Scarlet Raiders. He enjoyed traveling for polka weekends and worked as a disc jockey at many functions. He and his wife, the former Joan B. Straczek, were married July 16, 1955. Besides his wife of 46 years, he leaves four sons, David A. Pause of Adams, Stephen M. Pause of Amherst, Daniel W. Pause of White River Junction, Vt., and Dennis P. Pause of Easthampton; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His brother, Carl Pause, died in 1990. The funeral will be Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, by the Rev. John C. Chwalek, pastor. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be today, Dec. 21, from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire, which provided hospice care to Mr. Pause, or to St. Stanislaus' Church through the funeral home.
