Cornelius Boccagni

Cornelius William Boccagni, 86, of 1440 Rose Terrace, Apopka, Fla., died Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Florida Hospital in Altamonte Springs following a short illness. Born in Readsboro, Vt., on Oct. 30, 1915, son of Leopoldo and Olga Massari Boccagni, he was educated in Readsboro schools. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Africa, Bahrain, Iran, France and Germany and was awarded the Good Conduct and European, African, and Middle Eastern campaign medals. He was employed by the motor pool of the Army in Bettconstatt, Eselingen, Germany, from 1946 until 1950 when he returned to Readsboro briefly. He moved to Albany, N.Y., and was employed by various construction companies in the Tri-City area. In 1963 he moved to Latham, N.Y., and retired in 1974. He then moved to Florida. While in Florida, he was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. While in Readsboro, he was a communicant of St. Joachim's Church and St. Ambrose Church in Latham. He leaves his wife of 55 years, the former Simone Ducket, whom he married April 15, 1946, in Lyon, France; two sons, Philip Henry Boccagni of Apopka and Paul Edward Boccagni of Del-tona, Fla.; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by a sister, Lydia E. Boccagni, and four brothers, Carlo R. Boccagni, Ezio G. Boccagni, Lesio Boccagni and Remo N. Boccagni. Funeral services will take place Saturday, Dec. 29, at 11 at St. Joachim's Church, Tunnel St., Readsboro, Vt. Burial will take place in Village Cemetery, Readsboro, in the springtime. Calling hours at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, are Friday, Dec. 28, from 3 to 6.
