Victor Rancourt Jr.

Victor Alfred Rancourt Jr., 76, of 40 Brooklyn St. died yesterday at home. Born in Adams on Feb. 8, 1925, son of Victor Alfred Rancourt and Mabel Baker Rancourt, he attended Adams schools, including the former Notre Dame Parochial School and the former Adams Memorial High School. He was first employed by the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates Mills until the outbreak of World War II. He entered the Army on May 20, 1943, and served as a sergeant with Company C of the 398th Infantry Regiment in the Battle of the Bulge, Normandy and Northern France. He received the Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge on Feb. 1, 1946, he returned to Adams and was employed by the former Dewey and Almy Corp. and its successor, the W.R. Grace Co. in Adams, for more than 42 years until his retirement in 1988. He was a communicant of Notre Dame du Sept Douleurs Church until moving to North Adams, where he was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church since 1954. He was a member of the Frank R. Stiles American Legion of North Adams, the Peter Cook Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9144 in Clarksburg and the AARP. He enjoyed painting and collecting stamps. His wife, the former Frances Irene Little, whom he married Feb. 28, 1946, in Adams, died Dec. 6, 1988. He leaves two sons, James R. Rancourt of North Adams and Russell D. Rancourt of Williamstown; a sister, Lorraine St. Cyr of Lady Lake. Fla.; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will take place Thursday, Jan. 17, at 10:15 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. Burial in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Association through the funeral home.
