Murray Thornton Jr. 77

 

 

 

 

North Adams – Murray ‘Kip’ Thornton, Jr., 77, of North Adams died Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at his home. He was the husband of Marguerite ( Serre) Lavariere Thornton and the late Janice (Cayer) Thornton. He was born in Dorchester, MA, on May 22, 1944 a son of the late Murray and Marcia (Church) Thornton and Norma (Shaw) Thornton, his birth mother.

He was a decorated veteran of the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Big Y Supermarket in North Adams as a meat cutter.

Kip lived his life for golf and family. It was hard not to love his kind and winning personality. He loved and enjoyed his family and grandchildren.

Besides his wife, two sons and one daughter survive him; Scott Thornton, Dwayne Thornton and Gail Berry and her husband Joe and their son Austin. He also leaves behind a stepson and three step-daughters; Richard Lavariere, Elizabeth Petri, Susan Segala and Lisa Xanthos; two brothers and their wives, Douglas and Kathy Thornton, Mark and Susan Thornton and one sister, Shelly Clauson and her husband Robert, Aunt Marguerite Shaw, six step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM followed by a brief service at Flynn and Dagnoli Funeral Home, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA. My condolences to all of you,I have known Kip for many years whether I seen him in the Pittsfield or North Adams Big Y in the meat department,Kip was an AMAZING person and gotten to know Kip personally by delivering his food from Papa Gino's,when I would deliver his food we would always have a brief chat asking how my day is as well as how my family was doing,I am so glad to have known Kip!He will be deeply missed.May he rest in peace.
