Virginia Moses , 84

August 4, 2021, Virginia Mary "Ginny" Moses, 84 years young, passed away in her home with family at her side after a short illness. She resided in Pownal Vt.
Born on September 25, 1936 in Pittsfield, MA, she was known to most as "Ginny" or "Beb". Ginny was raised in Lenox, MA on the family farm as one of 5 children to Agnes(Cummings) Chague and Eugene Chague. Her Siblings included Emily ('Toots') Todd-Taylor, James Chague, Joseph Chague and Eugene ("Butch") Chague.
She graduated from Lenox schools in 1954 where she was co-captain of the girls basketball team. Some time after she took a job at Edgecomb nursing home in Lenox where she worked for many years.
She married Marvin M Moses in 1971. They resided (with Ginny's 3 children from previous marriages) in Pittsfield for a few years where they opened and ran the 'Piano and Organ Center' on North St. It was around that time that she took up golf at the Wahconah Country club and took home several trophies for tournaments she played in with a dear friend 'Guida'.
In late 70's, they closed the business and moved to Holly Hill, Florida near Daytona. While there she continued to work as a CNA and did private duty care. In her spare time she earned a certificate in cake decorating. Ginny loved being in Florida near the beach and loved having friends and family visit her there and only some time after the death of her husband did she (reluctantly) move back to New England to be closer to her family.
She then resided in the Spruces in Williamstown, MA, continuing to live and work independently until the year it was closed for good after a hurricane.
While there and after she moved out to her current address in Pownal, VT. she was an avid gardener and always had numerous plants and flowers as well as a small vegetable garden. She once grew 'Dinner plate Dahlias" that were larger than a dinner plate and stood 7 feet tall. In recent years you could find beautiful lilies around her home along with one or two pink flamingos and many chipmunks and birds that she fed daily with her most favorite being the cardinals.
Ginny also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She has made many afghans for her family and friends throughout the years as well as many bed dolls that granddaughter and great-granddaughters have received. Her children and grandchildren remember the knitted slippers she made for many years. e last pair was found in her yarn stash that will go to her last great-granddaughter.
Up until her recent illness, she continued to be completely independent. She truly was the matriarch and enjoyed visiting and cooking for all her family and friends weekly. Some family favorites included her potato salad, canned bread and butter pickles, jellies and jams and cheesecake.
Ginny was well known for remembering birthdays, hunting down a bargain at tag sales and her caring ways. She often watched the Weather channel and would call her grandson and his wife in North Carolina to make sure they were OK if bad weather were headed their way. She enjoyed visiting the Pownal Legion and the Greylock Club in North Adams where she was a member as well as the local casinos on occasion.
Virginia is survived by her daughters, Debra Johnson of Stamford, VT and Cathy Moses of North Adams, MA and her son, Robert Moses and his S.O. Becky Worden of Bennington, Vt.
She leaves five grand children: Jeffrey Johnson and his wife Jessica of Williamstown, Jeremy Johnson and his wife Heather of Raliegh, NC, Amy Fredette and her husband Josh of Williamstown, Ronnie Kelly and his wife Jackie of Dalton, MA and Christian Phiffer and his S.O. Tiffany Kuzia of North Adams.
She had 12 great-grandchildren who she saw as often as she could and knew them all well. They affectionately called her, 'Gramma Giggy'. They include: Jayden, Jeffrey, Maya, Ava, Lola, Ian, Noah, Grayson, Lena, Nora, Evie and the last, Juniper.
She is also survived by her last remaining brother, Eugene Chague and his wife Jan of Lenox as well as many nieces and nephews who she kept up with throughout the years.
Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Marvin M Moses in1983, her sister, Emily Tod-Taylor, and two brothers, Joseph Chague and most recently James Chague.
Ginny has had many pets and currently leaves behind 2 loving cats, Smokey and Annie who were by her side and kept her company. These will be adopted by her daughter.
