Charles Reardon Jr.

Charles Harold Reardon Jr., 77, of 183 Phelps Ave. died yesterday at home. Born in North Adams on April 28, 1924, son of Charles H. Reardon Sr. and Beatrice Marran Reardon, he was a 1942 graduate of the former St. Joseph's High School. Mr. Reardon was employed by the former J.J. Newberry's on Main Street until he joined the Army Air Forces on Oct. 21, 1944. He completed bombardier training at the 23rd College Training Detachment of the University of Buffalo in New York and transferred to the Nashville (Tenn.) Army Air Force Center and to the Maxwell Field (Ala.) Army Air Force Eastern Flying Command. He served with the 868th Bombardment Squadron as a T9199 flight officer during campaigns in the western Pacific, including the Air Combat Borneo, the China Offensive, and the Air Offensive Japan. He received several campaign medals. Mr. Reardon returned to North Adams in 1946 and joined New England Telephone Co., where he was first employed as a cable splicer helper. At his retirement in 1985, he was the estimate assigner in the business office. He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a longtime member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion, where he was active in fund raising. He also was active with the American Legion youth leagues and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He and his wife, the former Elinor Mary Keating, were married Sept. 6, 1947, in Our Lady of the Incarnation Church. Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Karen Brodeur of Westport, Linda Gentes of North Adams and Cheryl Sadlowski of Adams; a brother, Robert James Reardon of North Adams; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 9:30 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by services at St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams, at 10:30. Burial in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, Feb. 12, from 4 to 7. Memorial donations are suggested for North Adams Ambulance, American Legion youth leagues or any charity through the funeral home.
