Fred E. Schultz

Fred Edward Schultz Sr., 74, of Los Angeles, a native of Adams, died Friday at home. Born on Nov. 15, 1927, son of Friedrich and Katherine Garozolona Schultz, he attended the former Adams High School. He joined the Marine Corps in 1945 and served in the China and Japan as a motor pool technician during World War II. After his military service, moved to the Los Angeles area. Mr. Schultz owned and operated Fred's Automotive service facility at the Farmers' Market in downtown Los Angeles for 38 years, retiring in 1999. Prior to that, he had owned two Flying A service stations and was an instructor for seven years at National Schools, all in Los Angeles. He and his wife, the former Dolores Wiencek, whom he married Jan. 11, 1953, traveled throughout the world, including to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska and Mexico. They also had visited Europe, Australia and Japan and the Great Wall of China. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Julee Sparks of Vista, Calif.; three sons, Fred E. Schultz Jr. of Vero Beach, Fla., Timothy Schultz of North Hills, Calif., and Michael Holley of Westminster, Calif.; two sisters, Josephine Kleiner of Adams and Helen Federchuck of Albany, N.Y., and five grandchildren.
