Margaret M. Curtin, 97

ADAMS, Mass. —

Margaret Mary Curtin, beloved wife, sister, aunt and friend passed away on November 15, 2025 at the age of 97. A proud lifelong resident of Adams, she passed peacefully in her family home. Margaret was lovingly cared for since the passing of her husband by her niece Maureen Curran.

Margaret was born in Adams, Massachusetts in 1928, the daughter of the late Patrick and Rose (Frank) Tobin. She graduated from Adams High School in 1946. In high school, her interest in school activities led her to joining the Yearbook staff, Chorus, Athletic Association, Pro Merito Treasurer, Girls’ State Representative, Class Dues Collector, School Bankers and Press Club demonstrating the organizing abilities and responsibility she showed later in life.

She started her legal career as a secretary with Attorney Walter J. Donovan right after her high school graduation. In the 1950’s, Attorney Donovan established the law firm of Donovan & O’Connor with J. Norman O’Connor. Margaret enjoyed a lifetime career with Donovan & O’Connor (now known as Donovan O’Connor & Dodig) before retiring after over 40 years. While at Donovan & O’Connor she trained and mentored newly hired legal secretaries forming lasting friendships. Margaret managed the office with professionalism and was always willing to go the extra mile to help without judgement. She was known as the Chairman of the Board for fun activities, a role she took very seriously!

She was an enthusiastic skier, often going to Dutch Hill, Mt. Snow, Stratton, and other local ski areas. With her sister Marie, she joined the Ski Patrol at Mt. Snow and Stratton. Marg traveled to Utah and Colorado for ski trips, also visiting Mont-Tremblant, Canada with her sisters, Marie and Rosemarie. Later, local ski groups took her to Kitzbuhel, Austria and Davos, Switzerland. She enjoyed sailing in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands with her sister Marie.

In 1977 she married John I. Curtin, a partner at Donovan & O’Connor law firm. She and her husband Jack were lifelong communicants of St.Thomas Church, now St. John Paul II parish. After spending their honeymoon at Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico, they continued to visit Puerto Rico for many years. They spent winters in Bear’s Paw, FL to golf and enjoy the warm weather with good friends, along with frequent golfing trips to the Dominican Republic. Marg was a big supporter and champion of Jack’s passion for numerous gardening projects. Jack was an alumni of the University of Notre Dame and Marg became an avid fan of Notre Dame football, attending multiple home games with football loving friends. He predeceased her in 2017.

Marg took great pleasure in traveling through Italy with her close friend Betty O’Connor visiting the Vatican, Florence and Assisi. They especially enjoyed their trip to Ireland, visiting Dublin, Kerry and the Blarney Stone.

Marg’s greatest joys were her large Irish family and her community of friends. She cherished her friendships and was always grateful for the laughter and good times. She had great affection for her siblings and their spouses and her many nieces and nephews. Marg was always interested in family events and loved hearing individual family stories. Her nieces and nephews loved to visit often; visits included nephews painting the two story house one summer (what a job!), weekend ski trips or hosting six young nieces over summer vacation. For special occasions she would often bake her pineapple cheesecake and for Christmas, Irish fruitcake using the family recipe from Ireland. Over the years she took great care and thought restoring her home highlighting individual details through her beautifully chosen wallpaper. On weekends she enjoyed antique hunting through the Berkshires. Margaret loved being the family historian always noting upcoming birthdays, anniversaries and sharing historical family anecdotes.

Margaret was predeceased by her sisters Marie Tobin, Rosemarie Curran and brothers Patrick and John. She is survived by her brother Thomas and many nieces, nephews and their children, all of whom she loved dearly.

Much appreciation to Bill Kittler and the Kimball Farms Rehab team for their guidance in navigating Margaret’s care and transition to HospiceCare.
