Norman LaValley Sr.

Norman L. La Valley Sr., age 94, passed away peacefully at home with his wife at his side on Wednesday, December 17th, 2025. He was born, raised, and resided in North Adams for all of his life.
Born on July 7th, 1931, Norm attended St. Joseph High School and graduated from Drury High School in 1950 then worked for La Valley Oil Company which was founded by his father and uncle. He eventually became a co-owner. Norm was a familiar friendly face in North Adams. He was, early on, an avid sportsman especially enjoying fishing and playing softball in local leagues and was present at all clambakes, derbies, and parties. He became a regular presence at Mt. Greylock Bowl as a member of assorted leagues through the years, his most memorable one being The Retired Men's League in which he played with his daughter, Donna, who became an honorary member. In his later years, he played pitch and cribbage at the Elks, weekly, maintaining a connection with longtime friends and family. Norm was a member of the Greylock Community Club for many years. He brought joyful energy and fun everywhere. He never tired of teasing "the ladies" wherever he went. Cashiers, tellers, nurses, and receptionists all smiled when they heard his laughter in the building.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda (Lampiasi) LaValley, who was his soulmate and loving caregiver.
A previous wife, and friend, Joan Marion of Williamstown, who is the mother of his three children survives him, as well.
He is survived by three children and their spouses: Susan (LaValley) St. Pierre - (Edward) of North Adams, MA, Norman LaValley Jr. - (Diane Peters) of Borne, MA, Donna LaValley-Leary - (Michael Leary) of North Adams, MA. Each who gave him two loving grandchildren, who then gave him, seven great-grandchildren. Norm has surviving stepchildren: James Jandran (Monica De Loach), Timothy Jandran (Michele Trumble) David Jandran (Kari), Rebekah Jandran (David Gagne), Daniel Jandran (Tanya). With ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, five of whom knew him as "Papa".
He is also fondly remembered, as "Papa Norman", by dozens of day care children that he visited at his daughter Susan's family daycare over the years. Special thanks to his neighbor, Rita Bator and Hospice of the Berkshires for their support and invaluable care in Norm's final months.
The family asks that he be remembered for his selfless generosity and fun-loving spirit.
