Henry V. Rabouin

Henry V. Rabouin, 95, of 106 Richmond Road died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Springfield on Feb. 28, 1907, son of Henry and Flora Bernier Rabouin, he moved to Windsor at an early age and was educated there. He graduated from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture in 1928. He owned and operated the Mount Pleasant Farm in Windsor until 1940. He also owned and operated the first registered tractor-trailer in Berkshire County. This led to the purchase of the Conway Express Co. in the early 1940s, along with his own trucking business, Henry V. Rabouin Trucking Inc. He retired as president of the company in 1991. Mr. Rabouin was a member of the American Trucking Association and the American Truck Historical Society. He was named a founder of the Trucking Industry in June 1997 when he was presented with a special citation from the Trucking Industry. He was also a member of the Windsor Grange, the Pittsfield Optimist Club, and he had served on the Hancock Zoning Board of Appeals for many years. He leaves his wife, the former Edna R. Fitzroy, whom he married June 18, 1930; two daughters, Sandra J. Kimple of Richmond and Sue Ann White of Syracuse, N.Y.; a sister, Elizabeth Dawson of Bethesda, Md.; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Irene M. Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Hancock Cemetery at a later date. Calling hours will be today, Wednesday, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hancock Volunteer Fire Department c/o the Wellington Funeral Home.
