Frank P. Salvan

Frank P. Salvan, 88, of Brewer Hill Road, Mill River, died yesterday at Providence Care Center in Lenox. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Jan. 12, 1914, son of Peter and Maria DellaPorta Salvan, he was educated in schools there and was a 1932 graduate of Dewitt Clinton High School. While on vacation in 1970, he discovered the Berkshires and moved here in 1979. During World War II, he was employed by Elco Boat Works in Bayonne, N.J., where he helped build motor patrol torpedo boats, including the PT 109, the boat commanded by John F. Kennedy. Mr. Salvan worked as a carpenter for the New York City Water Department for more than 25 years. A boat builder, he was a member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America Local 2090 in New York for more than 50 years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield. He enjoyed sailing and had built two Star-class sailboats, which he raced on Long Island Sound. He also enjoyed skiing and tennis. He and his wife, the former Agnes Ness, were married Oct. 6, 1940, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Bronx, N.Y. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Gordon F. Salvan of South Lake, Texas; a daughter, Lynn Mann of Bronxville, N.Y., and two grandchildren. Another grandson, Bryan Salvan, died in 1982. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 17, at 11 at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield by the Rev. John Liss. The family will receive friends tomorrow, April 16, from 4 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME.
