Arthur Siciliano

Arthur Glen Siciliano, 82, of 3 Rickards St. died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was admitted Sunday. Born in North Adams on Jan. 19, 1920, son of Jerry J. and Exilda Betti Siciliano, he attended local schools and graduated from Drury High School in 1937. He also graduated from the former Bliss Business College in 1938. Mr. Siciliano was a member of the first draft from North Adams and was inducted into the Army on Feb. 5, 1942. He served in the British West Indies theater of operations and was discharged on Nov. 20, 1946. A longtime area restauranteur and businessman, he was first employed with his father in the former Venetian Dairy. In 1946, he purchased the former Four Acres Dairy Bar in Williamstown and later established the Four Acres Restaurant, which he sold in 1976. In 1963, he built the Four Acres Motel, which he sold in 1972. In 1974, he opened the former West End Deli, which he operated until 1978 and, in 1985, he established the La Veranda Restaurant, which he operated until 1993 when he retired and turned the business over to his son, James M. "Jimmy" Siciliano. He was a longtime member of the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown. A gardener, he enjoyed raising flowers and vegetables. He leaves his wife, the former Eileen Pringle, whom he married March 6, 1945; four daughters, Gail Gillooly, Mary Field, Patti Siciliano and Theresa Siciliano, all of North Adams; a son, James M. "Jimmy" Siciliano of North Adams; a sister, Mary Ann Calvi of North Adams; 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Arthur "Mickey" Siciliano Jr., who died June 5, 1968. He was predeceased by three brothers, Jerry J. Siciliano, Thomas V. Siciliano and Lawrence Siciliano. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, June 28, from AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mercy Shrine, North Adams. The Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church, North Adams, will officiate. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Flowers may be sent or the family suggests donations in his memory be made to the Eileen Barrett Foundation or to a charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247.
